First of all, we want to take a moment to apologize. We know that having to delay Yik Yak for Android’s release date has been frustrating for many of you, and trust us when we say that we share that frustration. We want to be transparent with you with what has caused these delays, the progress we’ve made, and what our next steps are to bring Yik Yak to the Play Store.

What happened to the mid-April release timeline?

• When we last updated you at the beginning of March, we were in the thick of migrating our backend servers to a new API. This project has been our number one priority from a development perspective since the beginning of the year. When we first relaunched Yik Yak, so many of you joined the herd that we quickly found some areas that needed to be updated to bring you the best app performance and enable you to connect with the community around you. Because of this, we have been working hard to increase performance and deliver the best experience for users. As we started to take this new API live we ran into a few unexpected hurdles which delayed the project’s timeline. Our Android app is based on this new API, and the release has been dependent on that project’s completion.

Has there been progress since the last update?

• In the last few months, our engineering team has been hard at work. Since the beginning of April, the new API has been rolled out in stages and the final stages of the migration are happening now. The Android client has made significant progress over the past month as well. Nearly all of the core functions of the Android version of the app have been completed with the remaining functionalities currently in development. Our team continues to work diligently every day to deliver it as soon as possible

So... when can we expect Yik Yak in the Google Play Store?

• As we outlined above, we are in the final stages of developing Yik Yak for Android. We will be releasing a Beta Version to a limited number of users who have already signed up for the Android Beta Program. The launch date for the beta release will be announced in the next few weeks. Pending the beta test going smoothly, we will release Yik Yak Android v1.0 soon after.
